it was pretty loud at about 3k! fine was only £30 but still a kick in the nuts! got it up Falkirk cruise this month... was not happy

they test the sound level with a sound meter at a certain distance and rev i have a sound meter for my work think if its over 90db at 4ft at 3000rps

but they technically cant test it as its not a Controlled Area.

thats not true, aslong as it still passes an emissions test it is still mot worthy

interesting then i stand corrected on the MOT part....however if its decatted the Insurance Company will still see that as a mod then?

EMISSIONS TEST WITHOUT CAT

Is it a reqirement for a car to be fitted with a catalytic converter if is was original equipment. I have a 1994 Saab turbo which is currently running with a 3" front exhaust ipe(non-cat). Provided my car can meet the emisions levels required for the age of the vehicle am I correct in assuming that the presence of the 'cat' is not a necessity? - Mike Stevens
There is no necessity to have a catalytic converter on any vehicle. However, your vehicle will be MOT Tested as if it had one and it is unlikely that it will pass the emissions part of the MOT without the cat. The reason being that the engine and the catalytic converter were all part of the same integral design to meet the emission requirements when the vehicle was manufactured - MOTT.

No, it is a matter for the Tester to decide whether or not the vehicle is producing excessive noise - MOTT.

best thing to do is use loads of redex just before u take it for an mot and on ur way 2 the garage boot fuk out of the car and u will get a very low emissions, my pals m plate corsa was decatted and he used the redex trick and the guy at the garage said he had never seen a cars emissions so low even on the newest of cars lol

yes it is classed as a modification and insurance company would need to be notified.

as far as MOT a catalytic convertor ISNT required? although you can still fail on emissions and say...noise level?

u cant fail anything for noise, although u can just keep getting fined and given an asbo. i almost got 1 for my golf but i was trading it in 2days later anyway so i didnt care.

aslong as the emissions test is passed u can do whatever u like to the exhaust system

so u cant get done if u have no cat ? cz im sitin with 11 point haha cant afford any more

no u cant, but if ur car is too loud they will tell u to get it "fixed" lol and if u dont and u become a nuisance to them chances are u might get asbo'd

although some people with basically just a back box with the rest of the system as standard can still be asbo'd eg tegboy should be

yeah mine is nuts wen vtec kicks in and that with a cat still in place and also a mid box,

and em stevie your just jelous buddy cause u spent so much money on your exhaust and its rattling about and sounds like a tin can

its gettin fixed 2moro so

plus i happen 2like my extremely noisy exhaust system
